Lelvo's photo timeline on an iPhone, with a small green mark on each backed-up photo

Lelvo LibraryPrivate channel, only you, 1,292 files

No storage plan
Your library lives in your own Telegram account, which stores it for free. No 5 GB limit, nothing to renew.
Still yours without Lelvo
Delete the app and every photo is still in your Telegram. Sign in again on a new phone and it all comes back.
Nobody in the middle
No Lelvo servers, accounts, ads or analytics. Lelvo uses Telegram's official API, and every line of code is public.

Everything Photos does, with a backup you own.

Lelvo's photo timeline, grouped by day, with a small green mark on each backed-up photo

One timeline for everything

Photos on this iPhone and everything in your backup, together by day, month or year. Back up all of it with one tap, or select a few and back up just those.

The small mark on each photo tells you where it lives: green for backed up, a cloud for only in your backup.

Collections, with Memories, recent days and places

Collections, Memories and Search

Memories and trips, recent days, your albums, a map, and duplicates with the best shot marked. Search for places, months, text and things in your photos.

All of it is worked out on your iPhone or Mac. Nothing is sent anywhere to be analysed.

A photo open full screen in Lelvo's viewer

Opens at once from the cloud

Big photos show a screen copy straight away, and videos play at once in 1080p and seek instantly, even on mobile data. One tap switches to the original. Nothing fills up your phone.

The info panel showing date, file name, size, dimensions and backup status

Comes back exactly as it was

Sign in on a new phone and your library is there. Save to Photos puts back the original with its edit, the RAW of RAW + JPEG photos, Live Photos, favourites and the same albums.

The Backup tab showing items not in the cloud and a Back up now button

Free up space, safely

A photo counts as backed up only after Telegram has confirmed every part, and only those are offered for removal from your phone. Delete something from your backup and it stays in Recently Deleted for 30 days.

Made for a lifetime of photos

Originals, bit for bit
HEIC, ProRAW, ProRes, 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision, with the file name, date and place intact.
Files of any size
Up to 2 GB in one go, 4 GB with Telegram Premium. Bigger videos are split into parts and joined again when you open them.
Optional encryption
AES-256 on your device, with a passphrase you can change and a recovery key if you forget it. Telegram stores files it can't open.
Never twice
Every photo is matched by its fingerprint, so nothing uploads twice, even after a reinstall or from another device.
Hidden photos, if you want
Off by default. Lelvo never shows them, and they come back to Photos still hidden.
iPhone and Mac in step
The same library on a Mac, with a sidebar like Photos and drag to Finder. While Lelvo is open, a photo backed up on one shows on the other within seconds.

Questions people ask

The short answers. Telegram's rules are Telegram's to set, so the answers link to Telegram's own pages.

Can Telegram see my photos?

In a Standard library, files are encrypted on the way and stored like any Telegram cloud chat, which isn't end-to-end encrypted (Telegram FAQ). In an End-to-end encrypted library, Lelvo encrypts every file and its details on your device first, so Telegram only ever holds files it can't open.

Is the storage really unlimited?

Telegram describes its cloud storage as unlimited, with files up to 2 GB each, or 4 GB with Telegram Premium (Terms of Service, FAQ). That's Telegram's offer, not a promise Lelvo can make, and Telegram can change it. Lelvo splits bigger files into parts on its own.

Is this allowed by Telegram?

Yes. Telegram opens its API to third-party apps under the Telegram API Terms of Service. Lelvo follows them: it uses its own app key, says clearly that it uses the Telegram API, doesn't put "Telegram" in its name or use Telegram's logo, and doesn't change how Telegram works for anyone else.

Can my account get banned for this?

Backing up your own photos to your own private channel is ordinary use. Bans come from breaking Telegram's Terms of Service, such as spam or scams. Lelvo only posts to your private channel, uploads at most two files at a time with a pause between them, and waits whenever Telegram asks it to slow down.

How do I restore on a new phone?

Install Lelvo, sign in with the same Telegram account and pick your library. Dates, places, albums and Live Photos come back, and photos already on the phone aren't uploaded again.

What if I delete the channel, or messages in it?

A deleted channel takes every file in it, and it can't be restored by Lelvo or anyone else. Photos still on your phone are safe: after a re-scan they show as not backed up, and Retry uploads them again. Please don't delete or edit messages in the library channel by hand.

Can Lelvo delete photos from my phone?

Only when you ask, and iOS always asks you to confirm. Free up space offers only photos that Lelvo has just checked are complete in Telegram and unchanged since their backup.

Is it really free? Who pays for it?

Lelvo is free and open source under the GPL-3.0, and every feature stays free. Your storage is your own Telegram account's, so there's no plan to buy. Making Lelvo isn't free, though: the Apple developer membership costs $99 a year, plus test devices, the website and a lot of evenings. If Lelvo saves you a storage plan, a small contribution keeps it going.
